MAHA UK’s managing director honoured during Garage Equipment Association’s anniversary celebrations
|
MAHA UK is delighted to reveal that its managing director, Neil Ebbs, was recognised for his dedicated years of service to the Garage Equipment Association during the organisation’s 80th anniversary celebrations.
Wisbech, 15th July 2025. Held at the Forest of Arden hotel, Birmingham, GEA Chief Executive Officer, Julian Woods, welcomed Neil onto the stage to receive a special commemorative plaque and pay tribute to his outstanding service.
After accepting a seat on the Board of Directors in 2010, assuming the role of president of the GEA in 2014 and then treasurer in 2019, Neil has elected to step down – but will continue to represent MAHA UK, protecting the interests of members and the industry as a whole, during council and working group meetings.
Julian said: “Neil has been a significant contributor to the progression of the association during his time on the Board of Directors. His input and wisdom will be missed, but I am pleased that he will continue to represent MAHA as we push into our ninth decade of representing the garage equipment sector.”
During Neil’s tenure, the GEA tackled two major industry challenges: the introduction of authorised testing facilities for trucks and proposed, unsuccessful changes to the MOT testing frequency – shifting from the traditional 3-1-1 schedule to a 4-2-2 model, aligning with systems used in several European countries, like France, Spain and Italy.
These two milestones – albeit very different – are looked back upon fondly by Neil, as is the company of various industry personnel he has enjoyed. Although competitors, they are all united in their quest to represent the garage equipment sector to the best of their abilities.
Neil added: “For 80 years, the GEA’s role has been to ensure that its members provide the best equip-ment and services to the automotive aftermarket. I’m proud to receive this recognition, but it’s the collective dedication of our members that truly defines the GEA’s success. Together, we’ve worked to raise standards, embrace new technologies and respond to evolving legislation.
“The GEA remains an invaluable organisation, one that continues to fight for the best interests of the sector, and I am sure it will continue its mission with unwavering commitment.”
