MAHA UK brought its trade media competition to life at the season-ending British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) round at Brands Hatch, with the prize winners enjoying spectacular racing, tours of the paddock and invitations to get up close-and-personal with the amazing machines.

Wisbech, Cambridgeshire – 17th November 2022 Toby and Polly, from EW Smith Garage in High Wycombe, braved torrential rain and were impressed by the drivers’ heroics in keeping their vehicles on the sodden, slippery track!

One of those drivers was truck racing legend, John Powell, whom MAHA UK ran the Commercial Vehicle Workshop competition in collaboration, as well as fellow competitor, John Bowler, who the workshop equipment manufacturer also backs.

Legends UK star and another MAHA UK partner, Will Gibson, a director of TWG Automotive, also caught Toby and Polly’s eye, with the ‘pocket rockets’ showing immense acceleration and speed, as well as agility around the corners, despite the treacherous track conditions.

Polly, in particular, was presented the opportunity to climb into the cockpit of Will’s car and get a feel of what life is like for a Legends driver: “You can’t see much!” was her immediate response.

Toby, meanwhile, who is considerably taller than Polly, passed on the opportunity after seeing Polly struggle to emerge out of the car!

A relaxed, fun environment allowed both Toby and Polly, as well as the MAHA entourage of Luke Fuller and Louis Tunmore, to bat away concerns about the weather and relish the experience – their first time at a truck racing meeting.

Toby said: “What a great day out! We both really enjoyed it and were grateful for the opportunity. It’s something very different to what we would normally do, but it was an eye-opener, and we’d like to attend again in the future.

“It was incredible seeing the big trucks at high speeds, then dance around the corners like a sports car – a bonkers but majestic sight! We loved the speed of the Legends cars too. Looking at the timetable beforehand, we were also keen to watch the pick-up trucks; we have a soft spot for them, as they’re what we drive at home.

“Polly and I would like to thank both Johns and Will for their hospitality, time and answering all of our questions! A special thanks to Louis and Luke too for their friendliness, knowledge and enthusiasm. PRESS RELASE – FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION

“Speaking to the drivers, they told me it was the first ‘wet race’ of the season, so, of course, we had to bring our guests down for this event!” Luke joked. “Nevertheless, both Toby and Polly were great sports, weren’t bothered about the weather, and they went away with big smiles on their faces. We look forward to building a relationship with the pair and EW Smith Garage.”
